Helmut Brinkmann founded his eponymous company in 1984, following the sale of a previous company Audiolabor. Previously involved with electronics, Brinkmann initially focused his new enterprise on the challenges of vinyl playback. His first turntable, the Balance, remains in production some 37 years later.
Brinkmann believes that, despite continued advances in digital playback, the vinyl record (in spite of its limitations) remains the foremost important music format in the world and remains the most emotionally involving high- resolution playback medium.
The Audio Salon features the current Brinkmann turntable lineup as well as their tonearms.
Since its introduction in 1985, the Balance combines timeless beauty, highest sound quality and perfect build quality. The basic design has remained the same, but in the best Brinkmann tradition, the turntable has seen continuous evolution and sonic optimizations. Hence, today, the turntable remains state of the art in terms of aesthetics and technology – as it has always been – while sounding better than ever.
The Spyder design accommodates up to FOUR 9”-12” tonearms and allows maximum flexibility of placement regardless of the number of ‘arms installed.
The 22-lb. alloy/crystal platter ensures speed stability and wide dynamics through the most complex musical passages and prevents dirt and dust from damaging your precious records. The Spyder offers the precision, wide dynamics and emotional involvement for which Brinkmann ‘tables are renowned in the most versatile turntable design available today.
The Bardo features the Brinkmann designed magnetic drive motor.
The tonearm base of the Bardo can be rotated and fixed without play to allow a simple and precise tonearm adjustment for all tonearms between 9” and 12”. We drill the base according to the tonearm that the customer chooses.
The output sockets can be found on the back of the turntable, they can be equipped with RCA or XLR sockets, and it is also possible to install tonearms with DIN connectors or fixed cables.
Taurus, our flagship direct drive turntable, features our bespoke, magnetic field motor, built to Brinkmann’s proprietary design specifications.
Built on a massive 40mm thick Duraluminum chassis inspired by Balance, Taurus delivers deeper, more visceral bass combined with the dynamic agility and forward drive which characterize all Brinkmann direct drive turntables. Taurus‘ chassis has been resonance-optimized to banish mechanical noise and enable the deep-black background for which Brinkmann turntables are renowned. In a further homage to our statement turntable, Taurus offers wireless speed selection via an engraved aluminum disc reminiscent of Balance’s hard-wired control.
The Oasis was Brinkmann’s first direct drive turntable. Well aware of the reputation of 20th century direct drive mechanisms Brinkmann took a different approach. The drive mechanism consists of a ring shaped permanent magnet contained in the platter's bearing and four air-cored inductors on the chassis plate. These inductors are adjusted and driven with utmost precision to different phase angles. Thus, the ensuing magnetic field rotates the platter.
The current Oasis uses an improved precision bearing, the result of ongoing development, and the Anniversary Model includes a 10.5” tonearm.
The 10.5 is a true all around tonearm. With a dynamic mass of 12 grams, it works well with any modern cartridge; and with 10.5'' length, it is still short enough for most turntables designed for 9-inch arms, yet also long enough for 12-inch arm bases. For optimum resonance control and high torsional stability, the »10.5« is made from aluminum and stainless steel; a high tech synthetic material is also used.
The 12.1 is not just a 10.5 with a longer arm tube. Since a longer arm tube offers lower torsional stability and is more prone to resonances, we had to implement quite a few structural changes. We're proud of the fact that you will probably not notice any them at first sight, and even more proud of the fact that the 12.1 sounds even better than the 10.5.
RöNt III is the third generation of Tubed Power Supply for use with all Brinkmann turntables. This product debuts Brinkmann’s proprietary “Rectifier Tube Simulator” to combine higher performance with lifetime reliability. Like all Brinkmann Audio products, the RöNt is an evolutionary design, refined over 25 years of continuous production.
