Ypsilon Digital
CDT-100 CD TRANSPORT
CDT-100 is YPSILON’s top loader cd player/transport. The transport’s primal objective is to retrieve data from the cd-disc with as much accuracy as possible. The laser head is extremely sensitive to vibrations so CDT-100 provides a rigid and resonant free construction.
The mechanism is mechanically modified and assembled within a massive construction of a sandwich of thick stainless steel and aluminum plates. In this way, the traditional box shaped chassis is avoided and along with that the associated resonance problems are greatly reduced.
The result is a solid, coherent construction that in combination with the suspension system provides vibration free operation.
The CDT 100 is a stand-alone product of high performance. It carries a Spdif out put so it can be linked to any outboard DAC. But for ultimate performance, which will astonish all who encounter the combination, then via the 5 pin output to the Ypsilon DAC-100.
CDT-100 contains a non oversampling DAC , with multi bit Burr Brown dac chips.Power supply regulation for the dac is only with shunt regulators.
The current output of the DAC chips is level shifted in the current domain and through an in house manufactured c-core transformer becomes a voltage signal directly at the nextgen output connectors. No feedback is used and only one low noise S-E class A jfet is involved in the signal path. Purity and transparency is the result,so when inserted in a SET system then one can fully appreciate the full sonic glory.
CDT-100 provides 3 outputs.
One SPDIF 75 Ω next gen connector.
One pair of RCA , analog connections , for use as a CD player.
One Neutric 5-pin analog current output for use with DAC-100.
We strongly recommend the use of the 5-pin output with DAC-100 for optimum performance. It is our belief that transmitting audio in the digital domain (SPDIF), has its imperfections and adds a certain character to the sound. The frequency of bit clock and data bit is too high for transferring the signal in a transparent way.
DAC-100 D/A CONVERTER
DAC-100 is our D to A converter. It is a non–oversampling, no upsampling design with multi – bit dac chips. The carefully designed power supply is with shunt regulators. I / V conversion is done by a specially designed, built in house, transformer. Τhe analog stage uses single-ended class A transformer coupled triodes with valve rectification and choke regulation.
The valves are the high mu, high transconductance, low noise SIEMENS NOS tubes.
There are two available inputs:
SPDIF coaxial 75 Ω with next gen connector.
This input can be used with CDT – 100 or other high quality transports. One Neutric 5 – pin analog current input for use with CDT100.
When this input is used with CDT-100 the digital part of the dac is disabled and is powered off. Only the analog section is used. With CDT-100 we strongly recommend the use of this input for optimum performance.
By using this 5-pin connector the signal is transferred to the analogue section of the DAC-100 at an absolute optimum sonic capacity avoiding possible limitations of digital interfacing.
All transformers are designed and built in house using the best available materials and are wound with sophisticated techniques for a totally transparent sound.
The transformers are of enormous size in order to achieve the absolute performance we seek.
We believe that DAC – 100 reaches limits of digital reproduction and can rival only even analogue sources.
The DAC-100 D/A converter is also 24bit/192Khz capable used in high resolution digital sources.
DAC-1000
The DAC-1000 and DAC1000SE are no oversampling digital to analog converters. They have 6 inputs, Coax,BNC,AES and Optical capable of PCM 24/192 and USB and I2S through HDMI connector capable of PCM 24/384. The USB can accept also DSD music files from a computer or server up to DSD256 and convert them natively without converting to PCM.
The PCM converter is made in house with discrete fast logic and resistors that comprise the R2R network. In the DAC1000 high tolerance low drift Vishay metal film resistors are used and in the SE version custom made naked foil types are used.
The Sonic performance of this architecture surpasses that of any R2R DAC chip that are no longer produced.
There are no digital filters or complex processing used before feeding the signal to the R2R converter. The output noise from such a converter is fairly low and some additional gentle filtering is done in the analog section of the DAC1000.
For DSD native conversion a combination of a dedicated transformer and inductors is chosen with an AKM chip mapped so that only it’s output stage is used. DSD playback is only possible through the USB input. When a DSD signal is present the DAC1000 automatically senses the signal directing it to DSD converter.
The USB input is isolated with internal high quality power supplies. Re-clocking is done with ultra low phase noise local clocks.
The I2S input offers the purest signal path and no processing , achieving highest performance when a source with a compatible format is used. The HDMI connector with LVDS signal transmission effectively transmits the digital audio signal with no added jitter. It’s also isolated to avoid ground loops and the digital signal is re-aligned with the incoming master clock.
The analog section is made with a single ended, triode operated, Siemens tube ( one per channel). Coupling between the converters and the tube is done with an in-house made ‘wire capacitor’ keeping this way the signal path as pure as possible.
The tube is transformer coupled to the output offering very low output impedance (30 ohm).
The power supply uses a rectifier tube and power supply inductor for a quiet and low noise high voltage to the tubes.
All functions are displayed in an LCD display and controlled also with a remote control.
